Hi Kerry, Instead of Cortina, I'd suggest any of the 3 towns/villages (Ortisei, St. Christina, Selva) of the Val Gardena. Bolzano is about 40 minutes from the Dolomites and Castlerotto, while quaint but small, is not in the Dolomites either.
